Tips Why We Should Travel By Train

Although airfare deals and packages are just everywhere, still it’s seems expensive to travel by air, plus the hassles of airline policies and restrictions. Why not try something new, or maybe try something old.

Train travel is an under-appreciated part of the U.S. travel scene. But because of the rising prices in airfares and other transportation, train travel is making a comeback. An article written by Sarah Schlichter, gives us 10 reasons why we should travel by train.

Money savings. Train fares are cheaper compared to airlines especially when you’re traveling short distances.

Stable fares. Though train fares may increase on peak travel season and decrease during sales, it is still relatively stable compared to the confusing and frustrating fare structure of airlines.

Flexibility. If you miss your train you can easily catch the next one in less than an hour without having to book for your trip or pay last minute fares.

More baggage. Obviously you can bring more luggage (some allows up to 3 luggage for free) in a train than in an airline.

Less hassle. Traveling with train requires no long lines for security check and you can arrive 30 minutes before your departure time and go straight to your platform.

Door-to-door convenience. Most train stations are located right in the heart of the cities they serve, so you don’t need to pay for an expensive cab.

Eco-friendliness. Carbon emissions from trains are less damaging to the environment, making them more energy-efficient per passenger mile than planes or cars. “The relative energy-efficiency of trains means that the industry is less vulnerable to increases in fuel prices — making train fares more stable in an unstable economy.”

Comfort and relaxation. Train travel offers their passengers the comfort and relaxation they are looking for while traveling. Someone else is driving, you have more legroom and you can move around anytime you want.

Old-fashioned charm. Traveling in a train may sometimes mean traveling back in time too. “The days of silverware and fine china in coach class may be long gone in the airline industry, but on overnight trains you’ll still find dining cars with full-service meals and uniformed wait staff.” Old fashioned travelers choose to read books, play cards or simply enjoy the scenery rushing by while in a plane modern travelers always have their iPods or laptops.

Beyond just transportation. Aside from taking you to your main destination, a train ride can be a destination by itself. Along the way, you get a glimpse of the many beautiful scenery that are usually unnoticed by other travelers.
